The aim of food presentation is to create aesthetically beautiful food. Whilst part of the visual importance of food is as an indicator of quality there is also the pleasure factor of eating and this is heightened by the aesthetic appeal of the food.
Although it is a certainty that the brain triggers feelings of pleasure when looking at an innate object of beauty, it is not yet known why this happens.
The experience of beauty in food can be attributed to many factors including:
-
Harmonious Composition
-
Colour
-
Freshness
-
Culinary Perfection
-
Simplicity
-
Naturalness
-
Extravagance & Luxury
-
Complexity
-
Creativity
-
Ingenuity
-
Drama
However, all of the above factors are subjective. Therefore whether a food is considered to be beautiful is entirely dependent on the individual looking at it.
